Gail Lingelbach Pugh July 25, 2022
Gail Lingelbach Pugh, 68, of Stanardsville, passed away peacefully on July 25 surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous 3 year battle with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. She was born on October 16, 1953, in Alexandria, Virginia to the late Joseph Lerony Lingelbach and Joy Ann Sutton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Dwayne Pugh; two brothers, Steve Michael Courtney and Charles Keith Lingelbach; her sister, Linda Arlene Van Reuth, and her step-father Ralph Joseph Sutton. She was a devoted and sacrificing mother, grandmother (grandma Gail and mom mom), and wife. In these roles, she truly demonstrated unconditional love. She was a powerfully strong woman with grit beyond measure. She was a compassionate lover of animals, especially dogs, birds, and horses. She had a green thumb and enjoyed her flower gardens. She loved the fragrance of honeysuckle and lilac. She was an avid reader and lover of history. She was an outstanding home cook and welcomed so many to her table over the years. She loved nature, The Outer Banks, Celine Dion, sweet coffee and hot tea, and made the world’s best spaghetti sauce and christmas cookies! She is survived by her sister, Lisa Michelle Sutton-Stewartson; her brothers Glen Wayne Van Reuth, Richard Barry Lingelbach, and David Shawn Sutton; her daughter, Kelly Pugh Shifflett and husband Hank Shifflett; two sons, Eric Michael Pugh and Jason Matthew Pugh; seven grandchildren, Kalyb Matthew Griffin-Pugh, Jared Morgan Shifflett, Jenna Noel Shifflett, Logan Nathaniel Kibler, Autumn Baily Pugh, Kenzie Marie Pugh, and Ella Rose Pugh; and one great-grandchild, Jeremiah Cole Griffin. She is also survived by the friends and loved ones she touched throughout her life. The family would like to give special thanks to the following caregivers and organizations: the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff at Sentara Martha Jefferson Cancer Care Center, Dr. Andrew Romano, Dr. Sylvia Hendrix, Piedmont Palliative Care, Hospice of the Piedmont, and At Home Care Staffing. Thank you Dr. Sarah Jones with UVA Neurology. A special thanks to Anna, Linda, Sally, and Lisa for the tender, loving, compassionate care you provided to Gail throughout her battle with cancer. She was so grateful for all of you! At Gail’s request, the family will have a private celebration of her life. They will notify friends and family of this service at a later date.
