Eva Janice Vickery Fincham (Jan), 75, of Gordonsville, Virginia went to be with her Lord on October 29, 2021. She was born to the late Alexander and Eva Mae Weston Vickery on May 6,1946 in Steadham, Alabama.

Jan was married to Albert James Fincham, Jr. in 1964. After four years as a Navy wife and living in Pensacola, Florida and Rhode Island, they relocated to Albert’s hometown of Orange, Virginia.

Jan was a softball coach, a Girl Scout Leader, and a volunteer member of the Orange County Rescue squad for many years. She continued her volunteer work with the American Red Cross, traveling and helping survivors of Hurricane Katrina and the California wildfires to name a few. She felt most complete when she was serving in this capacity. Jan was a devoted member of Zion Baptist Church.

Though her health had been failing in recent years, she pressed on and was quick to acknowledge that God was in control. When many would have given up, Jan stayed strong. She taught her family and friends what perseverance and trust in God truly look like.

Jan was a devoted wife, mother, granny, great granny, sister, and friend. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Al; her two children Brett Fincham (Julie) and Jennifer Hogsten (Joe); two grandsons, Simon Hogsten and Jacob Hogsten (Megan); three granddaughters, Mackenzie Voyles (Ryan), Emma Hogsten, and Addy Hogsten; a great grandson, Ralph Voyles; two sisters, Annette Thomas and Gay Drew (Wayne); a brother, Dennis Vickery, and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Mary Rice, Imogene Majors, and Clarice Walls; brothers, Joe Vickery, Maurice Vickery, and Earle Vickery.

A special thank you to Ronnie and Darnita Hogsten for their friendship, love, and service during this difficult time.

A celebration of Jan’s life will be held on Saturday, November 6th at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church, Orange, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Red Cross.
