Emily L Jenkins, 103, of Orange Virginia died peacefully on Friday, September 6 at UVA hospital.
Born December 18, 1920, in Madison Virginia she was the daughter of Joseph E and Indie T. Lohr. She was the widow of John T. Jenkins, Jr.
She is survived by her three sons and their wives, J. Milton (Martha), Thomas S. (Robin), and Joseph T. (Jaymee) Jenkins.
Her grandchildren are Kaitlynn Jenkins (Stephen Ours), Shannon Jenkins, J Joseph Jenkins (Carolyn), A J Wissinger and J Trenton Jenkins. Also, she had six great-grandchildren.
Emily was a lifetime member of Good Hope Baptist Church and a former teachers aide for Madison school system. She also volunteered to serve in many community service organizations. She loved preparing food and providing hospitality service for any event.
Emily grew up in a large farming community and was taught how to cook and serve others by her mother. She loved family and church gatherings where she could show off her skills. She never used a cookbook and had all her secrets memorized. She never wanted her visits from family or friends to end and would always say, “You haven’t got to leave yet, do you?” In her final years, she made new friends at Dogwood Village.
Special thank you to the physicians of the University of Virginia Medical Center ICU. Their loving care and kindness made her last hours comfortable—many thanks to the nurses and staff at Dogwood Village for the fine care she received there.
The funeral will be held at Good Hope Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 11 at 11 AM. Interment will follow at the gravesite. Following the service, there will be a set reception for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Yellow Door Foundation.
Condolences may be sent to the family at Preddy Funeral Home in Orange Virginia.
