Ellis Wilson Crawford, 84 of Dyke, was peacefully called home by our Lord Friday, Nov 25, 2022. Born to Ellis Lambert Crawford and Dolly Ann Morris of Bacon Hollow, Greene County, VA on Sept 15, 1938. Preceded in death by both parents, brother, Donald Wilmer Crawford; son, Bruce Gordon Crawford, brother-in-law, Joda “Kenny” Hughes, Sr and most recently beloved wife of 60 years, Kathleen Crawford.
He was affectionately known by family and close friends as Willie, he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Rarely without a friendly smile, a warm handshake and some may recall the occasional mischievous twinkle in his eye, likely because he had a joke to tell. The mountains were always his home; although he and Kathleen did call Jefferson’s Monticello home for several years, back to the mountains that they came to raise their growing family. He then gave more than 20 years of service as Gardener then Master Gardener for the City of Charlottesville. Upon retirement, he spent the rest of his days hiking, gardening and enjoying his still growing family.
He is survived by his daughter Teresa Mae Crawford, son Timothy Wilson Crawford, daughter-in-law Sherrie Lynn Crawford, brother, John Randolph Crawford, sisters-in-law Naomi Crawford, Lena Hughes, Madeline Snow and a close family friend, Charles (Steve) Conley. Ever a faithful believer in God, he felt truly blessed to be Granddaddy to six grandchildren: Kaitlyn Fielding (Tyler), Tarah Crawford, Wesley Conley (Brittani), Angela Conley (Keith), Samantha Moneymaker (Benjamin) and Tiffany Crawford (Shawn). Even greater still, he was blessed to be Great Grandaddy to Wyatt, Elijah, Skyler, Macey, McKinley, Benjamin (Benny), Briahna, Karson, Jayden, Jayla, Karleigh and Walker.
We know everyone has a Willie story, please come share your special memories and enjoy a pot-luck style meal after the service.
