Edward Eddins died at his home in North Carolina in the loving arms of wife, Joyce A Eddins, who he was married to for 71 years. He died on September 14, 2021 at the age of 94 and was born on August 19, 1927 to his parents Floyd and Virginia Davis Eddins. Mr. Eddins left behind his wife, Joyce A Eddins; daughter and husband, Beth and Brian McDowell, of North Carolina; son and wife, Robert and Patricia Eddins of Florida. He also had two grandsons Robert Eddins of Barboursville VA and William Eddins of Winchester VA. He was also survived by two sister, Barbara (Whirley) Snow and Virginia Page Silver. He is following his brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Fisher, Patricia Cockrell, Richard L Eddins, Floyd Eddins Jr., Thomas O Eddins, Donald R Eddins, Jerome Eddins and Keith Eddins. 

 

Mr. Eddins graduated from Orange County High School. He also attended Strayer Account College in Washington DC; along with numerous training schools and seminars through the state magistrate program and continuing education for insurance and real estate.

 

He was a member of the Sudan Shrine in New Bern, NC, VFW as a life member, and the Madison Chamber of Commerce which he served on planning and zoning committee. He was also life member of Lynn Banks Masonic Lodge, and Virginia State Police Alumni where he also served as president. He served four years on the Virginia State Insurance Board and also four years on the Virginia State Psychology Board.

 

Edward was past member of Madison Lions Club, Charter member, organizer, and past president of Madison Jaycees, past member and chairman of the board of Green Hills Club, Inc.

 

Mr. Eddins was very active in the Republican Party and chaired the local unit for thirty-one years. He worked on many local, state, and national campaigns. He as also chairman of the 30th District Republican Party for six years. He was a member of the National Republican Committee. At that time, he served 8 years on GOP state board central.

 

Edward served 3 years in the US Navy during WWII which he was in the Europe Theater, Pacific Theater, American Theater, which he received ribbons for and also the Victory Medal. He is also retired as a Virginia State Trooper of 17 years. He owned and operated Eddins Insurance for 27 years and Eddins Real Estate as a broker/owner for 25 years. He was a magistrate for the 16th District for 20 years. He was also a member of United Methodist Church of Madison.

 

There will be a Masonic grave side funeral on November 13, 2021 at Mt. Carmel Baptist at 1:00 pm in Haywood VA. Condolences can be sent to: Joyce Eddins at 1205 Pelican Drive New Bern NC 28560.
