Clifford (Cliff) A. Compton October 27, 2024
Clifford (Cliff) A. Compton, of Ruckersville, VA, went home peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the age of 84. He was born on September 28, 1940, in Morristown, New Jersey. At an early age he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and has been active in the church his whole life.
Cliff worked for NJ Bell Telephone after serving in the Marine Corps for four years. The family moved in 1983 to Rochelle VA after Cliff retired from Bell Telephone after 21 years. He worked for Adolf Sehring Studios for 10 years. Afterwards, he worked several part-time jobs: Plow & Hearth, Sweatman Enterprises, Project Supply, Woodberry Forest School, and lots of painting jobs. He loved keeping busy. He always had a large garden and a huge strawberry patch. His later years he enjoyed crossword puzzles and of course spending time with his family. He cherished being a grandfather. His family was his pride and joy.
Cliff loved serving the Lord and being active in his church family. He was a part of forming Calvary Bible
Church in Readington, New Jersey. He was a Trustee and Deacon plus a Sunday school teacher. Cliff served as the Interim Pastor for Somerset Baptist Church while also teaching. He was a deacon at Thoroughfare Bible Church and a Sunday school teacher before attending Mt Carmel Church where he taught Sunday school, served as a deacon, and later an elder from 2000 until recently.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond A. Compton and mother, Helen Schmidt Compton, his brother, Raymond A. Compton, (Doris), sisters; Doris Compton Seeley, (Earl), and Barbara Compton Zellman, (Ernest).
He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Judy Soles Compton, son, John Scott Compton, (Virginia), daughter, Cathy Compton McLearen, (Sam), and grandchildren; Forrest Michael Compton, (Lauren), Kayla Compton Jahn, (Kyle), Zachary McLearen, Kate McLearen, Seth McLearen, Jacob McLearen, and Leah McLearen. Brother-in-Law John N Soles, Jr (Janell), and James Simon. Plus, several nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life held at Mt Carmel Church in Haywood, VA, Saturday, November 16 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception.
