Claude “Dutch” Leon Johnson, WWII veteran and life-long resident of Orange, Virginia, passed away on June 20th, 2022 at the age of 95. He was born on March 28th, 1927 in Fairfax, Virginia to the late, Charles and Effie Johnson.

During his early years, Dutch served in the U.S Coast Guard as a Gunner’s Mate on board the USS Laurel. He was married to Ruby Airleen Johnson in 1947, with whom he had two daughters, Pamela Strange and Constance Mann.

In addition to his wife and daughters, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Vernon Johnson, Curtis Johnson, and Charles Johnson Jr.

He is survived by his siblings and close nephew, Ethel Mae, Peg Racer, and Charles “Chuck” Johnson; his grandchildren, Tracy Strange-Nelson, Laurie Morris, Edwin Strange II, and Kevin Mann; and great-grandchildren, Abigail Dennis, Emily Nelson, Allyson Morris, Edwin Strange III, Sebastian Strange, and Meredith Mann.

The family will receive friends and other loved ones on Sunday, June 26, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Preddy Funeral Home of Orange. A Graveside Service will follow at 2 p.m., at Graham Cemetery in Orange, Virginia. 

Donations in honor of Dutch can be made to the Orange County Volunteer Fire Department at 205 Caroline St, Orange, Virginia.
