Cheryll Lynn Lewis, 77, of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, December 31,2024. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on December 25, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Selwyn Parker Lewis and Mary Virginia Brown. Educated in the public schools in Baltimore, she would later go on to further her education, receiving her Associate Degree in Applied Science in May 1983 from Phoenix College in Phoenix, Az.
Once arriving in Charlottesville in the late 80’s, Cheryll worked various jobs at the University of Virginia. Her last assignment there was a Fiscal Administrator for the Carter G. Woodson Institute (2009-2013), where she oversaw all budgetary operations until she retired. Even after retirement, Cheryll would return to assist her colleagues whenever her expertise was needed.
Cheryll loved fishing and sewing, even putting her skills to work by making some of her own clothes. She also knew her way around the kitchen, often surprising friends with meals of salmon, potatoes, and homemade cookies. She was also very active in the ministry at the Kingdom Hall in Charlottesville. She was baptized on November 13, 2004 as a Jehovah’s Witness and served as a pioneer for over 10 years.
Cheryll was pre-deceased by her daughter, Tanya Owens and her brother, Stevie Lewis. She leaves to mourn her son Adrian Owens and his wife Kim (Louisa), her brothers; Selwyn Lewis II , Michael Lewis both of ( Gordonsville), sisters; Darlene Morton( Barboursville), Karen Quarles ( Sam) ( Gordonsville), Glenda Hill ( Charlottesville), grandson ; Marquise Owens (Louisa), great grandson; J’khari Owens ( Gordonsville)
A memorial service will be held on 1/25/25 at 1:30 pm.
