Betty Ramona Mingia Sutton went peacefully home to her Savior on Monday, June 6, 2022 at Countryside Nursing Home.
She was born on October 17, 1928 in Raleigh, N.C. to the late Franklin Wesley and Bettie Keith Mingia.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Robert Kenneth Sutton, Sr.; daughter, Karen Sutton Rittenhouse; son Robert Kenneth Sutton, Jr.; brothers, Wiley W. Mingia, Frank W. Mingia, Jr. and Irving C. Mingia; sisters, Rachel M. Ballard and Emma M. Tuerk.
She was affectionately known as Mona to her family and lived her life as a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Betty retired after serving over 30 years on Capitol Hill, a rewarding career highlighted by her time on the staff of Senator Henry M. “Scoop” Jackson of Washington state.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey K. Sutton (Karen) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.; granddaughters, Allison R. Rittenhouse (Daniel) of Stanardsville, Va., Diane H. Hill (Robert) of Crofton, MD, and Stephanie L. Rittenhouse (Greg) of Keswick, Va.; grandsons, Robert K. Sutton, III (Lauren) of Crofton, Md, Joshua A. Sutton (Laura) of Winchester, Va., and George J. Sutton of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.; great-grandchildren, Lenora and Dalton Hill, Ramona and Michael Austin, Robert Sutton IV, and Jude Sutton.
