On Friday, May 6, Ann Horkman Freeman, passed away at the age of 100. Ann was born on April 11, 1922 in San Benito, Texas. Her husband, Claude Freeman of Del Rio, Texas, predeceased her. She is survived by her two children, Kathryn Freeman Leonard, wife of the late Robert Leonard and Chip Freeman, husband of Donna Aylor Freeman. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Kate Leonard Capilupi, Thomas Leonard and Hannah Freeman and six great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Genevieve and Alexander Capilupi and Michael, Madeleine and Mary Leonard.

Ann had a lust for life and a strong will. She volunteered with various organizations into her late 80s. She was a master of needlework arts, spending much of her free time creating beautiful things. She enjoyed gardening and had a ‘green thumb’ that none could rival. Her perennial gardens were awe inspiring. She loved to travel and spent her later years traveling the world with friends. After a debilitating stroke, she refused to give in to the new confines of her life and her strong spirit continued to shine through. Ann always said to anyone she met that she would live to be 100 and her strong will prevailed. She died peacefully three weeks after her 100th birthday holding the hand of her beloved granddaughter, Hannah.
